Hi! I’m Verna.

Listening to the radio has always been my go-to for encouragement, relaxation and information. I started listening consistently to radio stations in west Alabama and east Mississippi when I was about seven years old. I still remember the call letters of these hometown stations! Casey Kasem's American Top 40 was one of my favorite programs.

On Friday nights when there wasn’t too much static interference, I listened to disc jockey (DJ) Wolfman Jack. (I don’t recall how I stumbled on this station because it was located hundreds of miles from where I lived. Nevertheless, I enjoyed listening!)

When living in German villages in the 80s and early 90s while stationed there with my husband, I listened to the Armed Forces Network (AFN) enjoying music as well as Old Time Radio (OTR) dramas such as Gunsmoke and Perry Mason.

Since maturing in my faith my life choices, including radio programs, have been refined!

In the late 90s, a friend introduced me to WAFT. Then, not long after I became a supporter. In 2018, I was invited to become a member of WAFT’s staff. What a privilege and honor it is to serve God’s people!

I’ve been married to my wonderful husband, Len, since 1979. One of the highlights of our day is studying God’s Word and praying together.

Our three children are married. Each family unit has continued the military affiliation Len started by serving in the military.

Some things I enjoy are keeping up with current events, teaching, reading and listening to testimonies and music. I also enjoy walking, playing Uno and Bible Baseball and spending time with our grandchildren.

Learn more about me by listening to WAFT on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.
